Is Beauty in the eyes of the beholder??

I love magazines, I read them as often as I can. I love magazines that deal with business, self-help, beauty, and I especially love fashion magazines. I was looking through the August issue of Glamour Magazine, and in it was a story about women and their jeans. The article asked different women of different body shapes, and ages to talk about how they like to wear their jeans. One of the women was Tara Lynn, a plus size model. I just wanted to share this photograph because I think she is beautiful, and she is one of the many curvy girls who is comfortable in her skin. Curvy is not a bad thing. It also makes me wonder that since over 50% of American are over a size 12, are main stream magazines going to become more accepting of the curves. I guess that we will have to stay tuned and see.

I recently read an article about a beautiful model. She was not the normal model size 0 or 2. I would say that this particular model was a size 4. However in the fashion industry models are expected to be that size. What struck me about the article was the label that the author used to describe the model's body. That article is what led to this blog post. I believe the author described the model as "botticelliesque". Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter/artist who worked during the Italian Renaissance. He often depicted women who were fleshy, with meat on their bones. These women were looked at as healthy, attractive women, who had the money to eat well. Hence the term "botticelliesque". How come the beautiful model in the story could not have just been described as beautiful? How come she had to be described based on her body type? Are these types of labels "thick","curvy", or "botticelliesque" good?
